Wobblebikes

What?

It's a bike that bends in the middle.

We build them ourselves from old, strong, 'gas-pipe' MTB frames. Paint jobs are usually rough as they tend to get chipped alot at public events. The paint on the yellow one was not even dry in places at the first event we went to!

Simon Nuttall of Cambridge Cycle Campaign invented the name to describe these bikes when JJ had turned up at one of CCC's events on one.

Folded wobble Why?:

Er...........Someday we'll think of an answer to this question - we don't 'do' reasons very well.

At least it folds neatly. We park them like this - just hold the saddle and let it fall in a heap!

This is the second blue one to be built and has improvements to the cable routes, a nice blue spray job and sparkly stickers

"It must be difficult to ride":

Yes it's absolutely impossible to ride!

I can still convince myself it must be impossible to ride, even when I have just woven in-and-out of a crowd of people on it. That's what makes it fun!

Mildenhall rally 2000 "So, what can it do?":

The wobble bike is a variation of the swing-bike. As well as the forks turning, it has a second pivot about 7" in front of the seat tube. It looks impossible to ride, and many people who have tried to ride it have given in. However, with a bit of practice some amazing tricks can be performed: appearing to go sideways, weaving through crowds, extra tight turns and wobbly track-stands.

Smurf blue:

Most of the wobble bikes are BIG if you build them small you end up kicking the front wheel or trapping your foot under the cross bars. To overcome this, the Wobblebike we built for Spokesfest has 24" wheels and 160mm cranks. Finnished in the 'Smurf blue' paint requested by Roger the Hilldodger, the angles have also been tweaked to make it easier to ride. However, it now takes more force to hold it 'crossed up' so tricks are harder work.
