I am very pleased to be able to promote John Wesley Harding in Buckingham again. Wes, his
real name, has played here before - in fact our third ever gig in January 2003. In recent
years he has become a very successful author, (his first novel 'Misfortune', published by
Jonathan Cape drew excellent reviews and he has just published a second entitled 'By
George'), and thus his recent musical activity has been limited. This coupled with the
fact that he now lives in New York has meant that his UK tours have been very few and far
between.
In the late 1980's, having left Cambridge with a first class degree, Wes gave up a PhD
in Political Science for music, initially supporting the Hothouse Flowers. Since those
early days he has recorded a host of albums and been joined on stage, and opened up for a
virtual whose who in rock 'n' roll including, John Prine, Joan Baez, Iggy Pop, Bruce
Springsteen, Ramblin' Jack Elliott and Lou Reed.
Over the years touring with a band and as a solo artiste, Wes has built up a very loyal
following, who have been attracted to his beautifully crafted songs, his wry sense of
humour, great anecdotes and fluent acoustic guitar playing. Wes is a most entertaining
performer and I hope everyone who appreciates a true wordsmith will take advantage of this
very rare date

Chris and David will both play short support sets before they combine in various
combinations with John Wesley Harding.
Chris, who was born in Syracuse, New York is a singer songwriter, who earned a cult
following with a string of indie releases during the 1990s. He is a frequent collaborator
with John and also works as a record producer and engineer.

David Lewis was born and raised in the UK but sowed his ambitions in San Francisco. He
has released three albums all of which have been well received, and now mainly works in the
UK, and has a full time job of teaching at university, but plays when time allows.
